Dave and Drew are back with another round of Baton Rouge news, politics, crime, and the stories that make you wonder what exactly is going on around here.
This week, the guys break down Jayden Daniels sending LSU a cease-and-desist over his jersey number, a BRPD sergeant working and driving on a suspended license, and the latest on St. George’s proposed part-time volunteer police force.
They also get into the races for mayor and police chief in Central, upcoming I-12 drainage construction, and Baton Rouge native NBA YoungBoy announcing plans to permanently move to South Korea.
And because Louisiana never disappoints, there’s the story of two men accused of pretending to be police officers and stealing a dump truck at gunpoint — who apparently say the whole thing was just a prank.
Plus, Dave and Drew open up the listener mailbag, including complaints about the podcast audio, demands for better food for guests, some love for a recent guest, and a warning that an old episode might need to disappear if Jayden Daniels ever comes on the show.
It’s Baton Rouge news without the press releases — The Sadvocate Podcast with Dave & Drew.

It is the Savigate Podcast, Dave and True, episode number 41. Getting back into doing more than one episode a week. Very exciting. And we're back, and my host, Dave Ripolo, a writer at the Savagate. My name is Drew Merle, St. George City Councilman, local attorney, candidate for justice of the peace. Keep going. It's like six of them. We got an hour. That's all I got right now. You know what I want to be? I want to be a Game of Thrones character. Game of Thrones character, Drew Merle. First of his name. That's right. So yes, we're back with episode 41. If you missed episode 40, that is Zachary City Councilwoman, Amber DeVergilio. Gilio? Gilio? Gilio. Piku. Piku. Amber. Let's just call her Amber. Amber. Yeah. So you can go listen to that and let's start talking about all the progress in Zachary, what's happening in her own re-election campaign. Where do we find that podcast, Andrew? That's wonderful that you asked, Dave. Anywhere podcasts are located. So if you're an iTunes person, iTunes will get you. If you want to be simple about it, go to Facebook, go to the Savigate Podcast page. It'll be there. You can find it on the Savigate. You can find it on BuzzSprout. You can find it anywhere that you normally would find a podcast. And if you do find it, we'd love it if you'd like it. Link to it, subscribe to it, review it. Give us a kind review. That helps us grow the show. Even if it's fake. Even if it's fake. We'll take fake ones. We don't care if you really honestly listen or not, as long as you leave a positive review. However, if you did get a minute into the podcast, you are listening. So there's that to think about. And if you leave a negative review or want to text us your comments, how do you do that?
SPEAKER_01You can text us at 225-255-2480 and leave us a comment. Um you can even chew us out. We have a we have a Nastygram we're gonna read today. Because it's directed at you, not me. Otherwise, it wouldn't be on the air. But you can leave us any comments, suggestions, you can even leave us requests. We'll start taking requests and we will read them on the air.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's fair. So uh nothing in the news this week. Is there any reason why we'd want to do an extra podcast? It's been kind of slow this week. What's possibly going on?
SPEAKER_01You know, I mean, you know, uh there's some LSU news, a little bit of news that came up. You know, we don't normally do LSU news unless there's something big. And even though there was nothing big this week, we decided it was time to do a little LSU news.
SPEAKER_00What could be going on LSU news? Uh um uh unfortunately, uh LSU legendary baseball coach Skip Bertman passed away. Yep, rip big news. Rip skip, rip skip. Uh sad to hear that. Yeah, we're you know, Lane Kiffen is here, about to kick off his first season as LSU's football coach. We're we're only weeks away. Weeks away. Clemson's coming up, we've got a big, big start to our season. Yeah. Uh hopefully we can not do the Brian Kelly start to the season and lose the first game every year.
SPEAKER_01And if we do, hopefully uh Lane Kiffin has to blame the team.
SPEAKER_00No, don't blame the team.
SPEAKER_01And have an have an emotional outburst at the press conference. Poor performance. A bad start. Poor behavior. Big Louisiana accent, all that stuff. Poor behavior. Yeah. Yeah, but um, so there is some actual uh pretty decent LSU news this week, Andrew. That's right. They're expanding Nicholson over by the other. And also Jaden Daniels' mom sent a cease and desist letter to us.
SPEAKER_00I like it best when mom better than Nicholson drive. It would I would have been sorely disappointed had we found out that it really was Jaden Daniels behind all this and he was driving this. And look, he's a grown-ass adult. So the the idea that he gets a free pass because his mommy is handling his stuff is probably not a good look.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I I I can't help but wonder if she called him first. Do you think they have a family tech group? Because they don't live, I don't think his mom lives in DC. She might, but you think they have a family tech group like, hey Jaden.
SPEAKER_00No, I she was heavily involved. Like she can she prevented I remember hearing a story because my wife thought this was great. Um, you know, mom supported moms, that kind of thing, that she prevented him from dating in college. She didn't want any woman to you know, can get her hooks in and derail his success. Really? Like this this is my helicopter mom.
SPEAKER_01But do you think at some point over the past couple weeks there exists a text between mom and Jaden that says, I'm thinking about suing LSU, sending him a season test?
SPEAKER_00Baby, no, it's like, baby, I'm gonna send LSU. Nobody takes my baby's number five and gives it out.
SPEAKER_01You think you think there's one back from there that's like, mom, please don't sue my alma mater? Can't you just bring me some Campbell chunky soup? Because you have to wonder if Jaden was opposed to this or for it. Well, he's stuck with it now. I mean, and I'm gonna tell you, this man, this is the hero to zero cliche because Jaden was very beloved, and I'm sure he still is by many. But what on earth would cause you to not pick up the phone, call up Verge and Lane, and go, listen, I realize you guys, neither one of you here when this went down, but before you go forward with giving, you know, this guy number five, can you look up and see what I was promised to make sure we don't step on my, you know, uh my reputation? And I believe that they both have been like, hey, you know what?
SPEAKER_00We didn't well you know the rumor has it. They did have a Lane and Jaden Daniels did have a conversation before this, and apparently Lane told him the kid was promise number five, and the kid has come out since then and said, Yep, absolutely was promise number five. Okay. I was told I was gonna get it. Number five, apparently, you know, maybe DJ Pickett and Jaden Daniels are big into astrology, and five has big meaning to them. Yeah. Because DJ Pickett actually said he came here, he would not have come here if he was not promised the number five.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's a good thing he's got a lot of respect for the university, wants to play for LSU, probably if he has this number five.
SPEAKER_00Would he have settled for 4.9, which would have solved this whole thing? I don't care about the coach. I don't care about the scheme. We I certainly don't care about academics of promise. Number five. Number five. Is that available to me? And and can I and I have to have it. Yeah, I don't care about that Heisman trophy guy.
SPEAKER_01You know, there's a there's a couple of fonts that exist where if you put an S, it replicates, it looks like a five, but it's not really a five. So they could have probably solved this whole debacle by making him number S. Number Sive?
SPEAKER_00Number S. Number S. Yeah, sorry. We have officially moved to letters in college football. He is simply the number five. Just to appeal to the Daniels family and avoid a lawsuit. So um So why would somebody do I have a theory that this is about money? I mean, this may be wrong.
SPEAKER_02I'll have a theory.
SPEAKER_00From an attorney. This is about money. Really going out of limb on this. It may have something to do with dollars and cents. And so the money component to it is how do you divvy up NIL for random number fives? I don't know that could be done. So right now, is it I I I guess I guess from from mom's standpoint, no one ever wore the number five before Jaden Daniels.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right. Like that's that was the first number five at LSU we had was Jaden Daniels, and there shall be no fives that come after him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, only one in the history of the program. Yeah, and this is it. And he's the only one. So if you buy a five jersey, even if his name's not on it, it's gotta be Jaden Daniels' fault, right? Right, right. So that's that's my theory. It's what I'm working with. And my thing is I hate retiring numbers. So it's actually, I mean, that that is pointless. It's not about the number, it's about the name, the person who did the work. So whether it's 20, 9, 5, whatever, 7, whatever, quit retiring numbers. He's gonna, he was going to, I assume he still will, get his name up in the little ring in the stadium. Oh, I don't know about that, Drew.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of uh animosity to the Heisman Trophy winner.
SPEAKER_00I'll assume, assume, so you know what happens.
SPEAKER_01Good good word.
SPEAKER_00I'll assume one day he'll have a statue like all Heisman Trophy winners at LSU should. I'll assume. So if these two things happen, is the number five really that big a deal? No, it's not about the number. It's not about the number. No one should retire numbers. Do the math. There's only 99. We'll say there's 100 possible numbers. Zero, yeah. Yeah, if you if you get a zero to ninety-nine that a football player in college can wear. Because they can't wear letters until we get the number S the letter S approved. They cannot wear numbers. They cannot wear any more than that. So if that's it, you know how many football players are in the LSU football program? A lot more than 100. More than a hundred. That's why you have duplicate numbers now. If you keep retiring numbers, you won't have any numbers for people.
SPEAKER_01Single digit is typically for the quarterbacks. That's what the ones they're wanting to retire. What are you gonna, I mean, what are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_00I I at some point it is a terrible, terrible thing to even think of. So quit retiring numbers is the first problem. Right. Two, Jaden, dude, you're gonna make a lot more money off being a Heisman Trophy winner at LSU. Than number five. This dispute over number five.
SPEAKER_01I am curious to see where this goes from here. What are your thoughts?
SPEAKER_00If it's the Savvy, you gotta hope that somebody sues somebody.
SPEAKER_01But the Savicate just hopes it continues the direction it's going to be.
SPEAKER_00If they come up to a deal anytime soon, you know, that that costs the Savicate a lot of money. Kudos to all the memes that involve the number five that have come out in the past couple of days. Well done. They are flooding the internet. Well done. Flooding the internet. Whether it cost five dollars or the five five guys, I said. Five, four. Give me a high four. Yes. I mean bought tickets to the maroon four concert. Yes, yes. All of the things. Got him. It would be the Jackson Four. You're right. Yeah. He'll get them. He'll get them all.
SPEAKER_01He'll get them all. Way to go, Mom. Yeah, but I'm curious to see where this goes. Was it a rumor yesterday saying he wanted to come here and pick up his Heisman trophy? Or was it?
SPEAKER_00So this is the other. So that's not his Heisman trophy. So when you win the Heisman Trophy, the school gets one and he gets one. Okay, so he's got one. He's got one at his house. Okay. That's my understanding. That sounds like a rumor. That is given to the school to put on display.
SPEAKER_01I think that's I think that was just a rumor they got started. I'm not saying that what they've done already wasn't pretty dumb, but I would think doubling down and and we want to come get the Heisman trophy that's not ours is real dumb.
SPEAKER_00I'm telling you, if I'm on LSU's campus, I'm crossing out every number five on campus. Whether you and you can argue either way, I'm supporting him or I'm not supporting him. Either way, you're good. I'm with him or I'm against it. With him or against it, just cross out those fives.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good good story. Should be uh should provide a lot of comedy for the Savicate and maybe the Savicate podcast. Love that. Love that. All right, what else we have in the news? Um apparently a BRPD sergeant was put on desk duty after driving and working with a suspended driver's license. Uh-oh. Now we don't really beat up on BRPD too much.
SPEAKER_00We're not beat up on BPD. I would say the Savicate is a friend of the police department. Yeah, we've got the chief uh wants to come back on here. I gotta get with him, in fact, Mr. Morse. I would even argue it's because of the Savigate interview with police chief TJ Morse. That got the raise. It got them a raise. Without us, yeah, no raise. We should have been down for like a percentage of that, like a finder's fee. We should be paying consultants. I'm told that's a lucrative job.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we could do it. We could do it. This guy was driving under with a suspended license, which is detrimental if he would get into an accident and the uh the city's insurance company were to find this out. That would be very ugly for the city. But you know, he knew he had a suspended license. Uh that must have stemmed from a ticket. It could have been anything, really. Child support, it could have been anything. You think of all the all the people that could find out if he's got a suspended.
SPEAKER_00He'd be the one that should he has literally got the most access to go, hey, you know.
SPEAKER_01App on his iPhone could do it.
SPEAKER_00I feel yeah.
SPEAKER_01If if if he ignored the letter that DMV sent him, probably email by now. He could look himself up. He could look himself up, right? I guess he just figured, eh, who's gonna stop me or whatever. But I feel like the insurance company now probably has digital access to that. And when that comes across, they call the chief and go, uh, your boy's got a suspended license. So terrible, terrible move to not, first of all, to get to the point where your license is suspended if you're an officer. Sad dad. If you get a ticket, go pay it, right? No big deal. Or use your use your position and try to get out of it, you know, whatever. Okay. But if you're not that we'd ever say to do that, sure. No. If you're un if you're unsuccessful, let's not let it get to the point where it's suspended and make the you know not a button. Right, right, right. Terrible. So yeah. Um, desk duty is I I guess that's a punishment.
SPEAKER_00Well, not now because you don't need his license because he's not driving it. Well, that that was my next question. So do you verify how he got to work each day? Uber. Hey, look, he just showed up. Now what? Are you driving a car? That's that's Lyft, bitches. Now what?
SPEAKER_01That's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_00Joke's on you. That's right. Death Duty. Uh, so what all does that entail? I mean, how do you how do you punish a guy in the police force when he does something that's bad but not like, you know, firable?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, desk duty. You ever seen on the all the um all the movies when they show a policeman at the desk? He's always pissed off, he's always in the ass. Uh yeah, third precinct. I don't know. I'll send the car over. That's him.
SPEAKER_00My mission's to be in the field solving crimes, filling out this damn report.
SPEAKER_01What did the suspect look like, ma'am? How much do you think that book was worth that he stole?
SPEAKER_00Is this when he goes in uh Chief Morris's office and they have that uh that speech where he gets yelled at by the police chief for screwing up and he goes back to do an office pop and go back to his desk? Terrible. Yeah, so maybe we'll have that guy on.
SPEAKER_01Okay, what else is going on? Speaking of police, uh the St. George, the city of St. George discusses how its new part-time volunteer, we will call it reserve police force, will operate.
SPEAKER_00I would say volunteer is a misnomer and a mischaracterization of the program. Yes.
SPEAKER_01It was funny because I didn't hear about this. Kudos to uh Chief Todd for looking for some help to do a few things without it costing the city. But this was misrepresented. This should have been called the Reserve Police Force, which has been a thing for over 50 years at the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, and it was a thing for equally as many years at the Baton Rouge City Police. I know because I was a member of that force.
SPEAKER_00And and less than a week later, that's exactly what Baton Rouge announced that they were going back to supplement to help fill some gaps in the air reserves.
SPEAKER_01And I couldn't help but notice how many people took it upon themselves to make fun of St. George for this instead of saying, so we get police officers doing work and it doesn't cost us a dime. That's a kudos, not a reason to laugh and make fun of something.
SPEAKER_00So like anytime we can supplement police. Yes. Anytime we can add boots to the ground, anytime we can do anything that's proactive with with crime and crime enforcement, that's a positive. So 100%. You know, the same the same person that that hates the idea of us having this reserve police force is the same person that tells us we can't put up more cameras. Right. So if you don't have one, you gotta have the other. Figure it out. It's tough, but it's the world we live in, and we gotta fight crime, and and kudos to police chief Todd Morris on uh doing just that.
SPEAKER_01More police uh patrols and and general work being done, zero money out of taxpayers' pocket.
SPEAKER_00Yep, it's a wonderful, uh, wonderful program, wonderful idea. Yeah, and uh hopefully we can expand it as we move forward. Yep.
SPEAKER_01All right, what else is going on? Well, central is the hot topic for elections. They are four candidates for mayor and three for central PD. That is gonna be a brawl out there for those positions.
SPEAKER_00Nothing more fun than central politics. No, no, because it have it's not like somebody stays in office forever. Every four years, they get in a knockdown drag out and like upset the apple cart. Yeah, yeah. So police chiefs can be a lot of fun, mayor is gonna be a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yep, and Drew and I um we we came up with an idea, and we're we're gonna see if uh we can get a shot at having a Sadvocate moderated debate for the central mayor's office. Lord, please allow this to happen. And and I thought of something else that would the only way we can make that better is to have one Wade Evans as one of the moderators. Drew, Dave, and Wade. That could possibly get national attention.
SPEAKER_00That would be great, which is exactly what Roger Corcoran, central police chief, would like. He would love shot at access Hollywood. We might give him his true. He he probably knows someone over there. We could get on. We should probably be nicer to Roger so he can hook us up with his contacts and in Hollywood and Hollywood television. I agree.
SPEAKER_01Central mayor debate hosted by the Savicate with moderators Dave Drew and Mr. Wade.
SPEAKER_00I mean, look, if you're in Central, let's be clear. The news networks in our town, they don't care about you. They hate you, they disrespect you all the time. But here at the Savicate, we mention Central on a show-by-show basis. Yeah. We love you. We are the biggest marketing arm of Central. We love you. Central might not exist if it wasn't for us. I would call the Savagate really the Central Visitors Bureau. Yeah. We have promoted that town more than anyone on planet Earth, not named Wade Evans. And we would like an opportunity to to help you select your next mayor. Help you make an informed decision for the next mayor of Central, a race that is terribly important. The great thing is I know right where you can have the debate at City Hall because we know the mayor. Exactly right. We would even change the mood lighting for the night. It would be lovely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. What if what if uh they say, no, you can't do that. He could override it. He could write an executive order to make it happen. Where they can say, Well, we're not voting for you next time around, pal.
SPEAKER_00I'll show you. Ha ha! I'm not running. We're gonna have to have wait on the show and see if we can make that happen. Got plenty of time. I agree. We're gonna keep you know what we're gonna do is what everyone else does. You throw it out there and we call them. We're gonna invite each of them and see if they respond. And whoever doesn't respond, we're gonna say they're afraid. Afraid. Afraid. I tell you what, Mr. Lon Vickner would be there early, and he might even bring h d'oeuvres. No, yeah, Lon would certainly be there. I think Aaron Moak would also show up. Moak would show up. Moak would show up.
SPEAKER_01So we at least have two.
SPEAKER_00Yep, two out of four. We'd have to learn the name of one of them.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00And then there's Deanne Wells. Would Dean Wells show up?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00You don't think so?
SPEAKER_01No. Especially if Wade was the moderator. She wouldn't even be in, she wouldn't even be in the Paris that night.
SPEAKER_00Question for Deanne Wells. Um, how much do you hate Wayne Evans? Go ahead and answer. We'll wait.
SPEAKER_01No time limit. I am absolutely going to see if I can make that happen.
SPEAKER_00Savagate moderated central mayor debate. I think we would become the official moderators of all political debates from there on. Absolutely. Absolutely 100%. 100%. All right, what else we got going on? There's a lot of stuff going on. You really uh you're really bringing your Savagate A game today.
SPEAKER_01So 10 years after the flood, this this week was 10 years, I believe today, maybe it went on for a couple days. So but this is 10 years since the big flood of 2016, and our good friends at DOTD have finally figured out what prevented all of that water from flowing from the north side of I-12 to the south side. Drew, any idea what it could have been?
SPEAKER_00Well, first I want to derail this for a second. I you know something I've wondered about. DOTD does not flow well off the tongue. Like, you know, in the land of acronyms, you're telling me DOTD was the best they could do. They couldn't go LADOT.
SPEAKER_01La dot's good, but that doesn't, but the D is silence, you know what that is. Department of I guess, you know what? Drop to development. There's no development going on. Department of Transportation. Exactly. Exactly. La dot. La dotted. Nah, LaDot. It didn't have to be development. It's just transportation. La dot. Yeah. But apparently, 10 years to the day almost, they are beginning, they're beginning construction on an I-12 drainage improvement plan. No better time than a decade after the major flood. Yeah. And what's crazy is there was about six LP boys with some big hammer drills standing on the interstate in 2016 with a solution they were told to get lost.
SPEAKER_00Well, we had eight years of, I'll say bad Ladot. Bad Ladot. Yeah. Bad Ladot. And a lot of this stuff could have happened during that eight years of Ladot. Yeah. And it did not happen. So I guess on one hand, kudos. Way to get started. We got a fairly new regime over at Ladot. Ladette is uh the new regime, Mr. Ladette. Ladet is just that Ladette's Ladot. Leday and Ladot. That is so much better. Get on this. Might be able to do something with that. So uh it looks like a t-shirt. I'm glad we're seeing some progress where we have not seen a lot. I just wish one time that we would be ahead of something and not a decade behind it.
SPEAKER_01I feel like the right person at the helm of Ladot back then would have said, get any LOD LADO TD vehicle you can find and knock out every other one of those barriers on the interstate. We'll deal with the fallout later, but bust them up. You drive that truck straight to that wall. Right. Take it down.
SPEAKER_00Take it out. I'll be so great.
SPEAKER_01Because we mentioned this on one of the uh earlier shows, maybe one of the first five episodes. No, wait, nobody remembers that.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, well, we had to delete episode five after this whole Jaden Daniels debacle, so it's not there. That's right. There is no that's the lost episode now.
SPEAKER_00Episode five. All all Louisiana buildings will now not have floor 13 or floor five.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, so they just finished three laning um the interstate. State 12 in St. Tammy Parish, North Shore. And those barriers look peculiarly like the barriers here, except for one small difference drill. Holes. They have holes at the bottom. Yep. Now, I don't know if that's through 10 years of RD or just someone going, hey, how about we put some holes at the bottom of it? Hey, hey, hey. Guys, look at that. Water goes right through there. Kind of looks like a fishbowl. Yeah, water goes right through them there holes. Put a hole in it. And here's the great thing.
SPEAKER_00They're saving money because they're having to pour less concrete into these barriers. Let's be clear. No one's going to maintain that hole. No. And it's going to get all clogged up with stuff.
SPEAKER_01Clogged up and but there's probably a guy at DOTD who's going to be a crusty hole. There's a guy at DOTD who probably has a nice shaft. He can go and wallow those holes out before they get wet. I'm just flood. Moving on. You know, but but it's interesting that they that they built those and and didn't go, why don't we go back and bust these ones out in Livingston Parish? I don't know. I don't know. Okay. So they're there. Livingston Parish, they heard you. The money they paid y'all is going toward this project. In a decade from now, they'll clean out that clogged hole. That's right.
SPEAKER_00No promise. Or you'll go, the holes aren't big enough for flooding again. I have 10 more years. We need why why did you put these walls up in the first place? Because you asked for them. That's the fun part.
SPEAKER_01I love that. Okay. How about our boy, Baton Rouge, native rapper, NBA Youngboy? And the NBA stands for Never Broke Again, Drew. Just letting you uh wait, it does? It does. Yeah. Really? He's not a national basketball association. He did not, to be fair. Never played. He did not look like he'd be an NBA. Never broke again. And to make sure of that. That's really complicated. To make sure he's never broke again, NBA Youngboy is moving permanently to South Korea. Is that because the cost of living is so much lower? That could be because it's a lot harder to get prosecuted there for the dumb stuff he does.
SPEAKER_00Oh, is it really? I thought they cut off hands and stuff. Potentially. But I don't know if I I'm sorry. That's North Korea. I don't know much about the laws in South Korea. We spend a lot of South Korean time at my house because of K-pop and K dramas. You know, if you had a K in front of it, it's South Korea. So you got K-pop. So that's like BTS. So I got the kids listening to BTS. And then you got K dramas, which are like Korean soap operas. They're all kind of the same. You can't really tell. The guys kind of look like women. Whatever. But they've got these K pot these K dramas that the wife is watching like all the time. I've seen every K drama, at least an episode. I have no idea what the hell any of that means. It's like these really super cheesy. Like take our soap operas, make them sillier and cheesier. What are y'all watching that for? Is it a kid thing? No, my wife watches it. No, kids don't even watch it. Can we get her on the show to talk about that? Does she know you're doing the show? She's not today. Okay, never mind. No. She would never come on the show. She knows you're in the show at all. She'd be mad. I told her about K K dramas. I just shared some home life. What are y'all doing tonight? No one send the link to this show to Drew's. Yeah, what are y'all doing tonight? Oh, we're watching some K dramas. Did you sit there and watch or did you go in the back and pretend like you were working? I watched some of it. We're super cheating. For whatever reason, like I said, all the guys kind of look like women. Very, very, very pretty looking guys. Feminine? I wouldn't say a feminine, but yes. Um, and then the women, there's always like there's I've watched two so far, and they involve time travel.
SPEAKER_01God.
SPEAKER_00Uh, and they involve like romance. And I mean it's it's a soap opera.
SPEAKER_01And you get to we might need to cut this. You're all running for public office. I don't know if it's you're not opposed either, so you don't you're not guaranteed the position. This could get out, could ruin you.
SPEAKER_00So many people watch the KP. Do you want a justice of the peace who watches K-pop? Look, I'm a man of the people, and I watch all kinds of things, and this is part of being well-rounded. I think this makes me a better justice of the peace. I have more understanding. Do the opponents that you're facing, even though they're running, are they even come out and say anything about them running?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter about them. It's about me selling myself and my vision to the voters to make sure they know that I'm a quality candidate that they can trust and believe in for the justice of the peace. You can put your marriage and your evictions in the hands of Andrew Merle. And your small claims. Small claims. Yeah. Cover a lot of ground. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Look them up online. Andrew Merle on Facebook.
SPEAKER_00Any questions you have, you'd be happy to answer. We're going to prosecute litter violators at this Justice of the Peace.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's good news to Jennifer Richard. You got her support. It is.
SPEAKER_00Are you endorsed by KTTB for that? That'd be a good endorsement. Oh, I would be a good endorsement. That'd be a good endorsement. We can work on that. Fact, uh, we're doing a KTTB, Keep Tigertown Beautiful, cleaning tomorrow morning. It's 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Uh Seagan Village. I thought Seagan was clean. Well, we're going to keep cleaning it. All right. Hopefully it's so clean it doesn't take very long. I may try to make that. Me too. So there you go. I might try to make that. So good. There you go. Anything else going on? Yeah, we have another good story. Um be a young boy. Never broke again. Never broke again. What did you think it stood for? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01National Basketball Association?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I fail to go into like uh if I start breaking down rappers' names, nothing good happens.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Never broke again. Okay. Which is a good challenge. Um yeah. So he's moving to South Korea. We're gonna miss him. Hopefully, uh we can talk him into putting up some Gordon billboards and canes, chicken fingers to make him feel at home, maybe a few potholes, a couple shootings. That's right. Korea's like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_00He's coming weird, what? He's gonna be like the tallest one there, but like three feet. Hold on a second. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_01I think I think Koreans are really big rap fans, though. I think they like that music.
SPEAKER_00No doubt. Uh Cy. Yeah. One of the biggest rap artists in the world, South Korean. Yeah. Is that the Gangnam style guy? That's Gangnam style. That's right. You know, one hit wonder. No, he had another one. He has like a couple of billion views. Yeah. Didn't know that. He's making money right this second. That's why maybe that's why NBA Youngboy's moving over there. Yeah, he's like, I got one guy to compete against, not a whole, you know, country full of rappers. Yeah. Okay. So what else we got?
SPEAKER_01A pair of men who pretended to be police officers pulled over and stole a dump truck, were arrested, and told the police it was just a prank. We was just kidding. I I robbed that bank. I was just joking. When we yanked him out of the cab of the truck and took off and led y'all on a chase, we were trying to let y'all know we were just kidding. When I pistol whipped the driver. It's a prank. There's a camera, my boy's recording.
SPEAKER_00It's all a prank. I mean, stealing a dump truck feels like stealing a dump truck. You're gonna be in a really slow-moving police chase, like uh Austin Powers style, like you're just rolling five miles down the road. Where are you going in a dump truck?
SPEAKER_01Like, what are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_00At some point, he tried to turn the cement mixer on and uh and or no, it's a dump truck. Uh he dumps the dump truck out, like movie style to try to foil the police.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, stole the dump truck. I don't I don't see that, but to each his own. That was a Baton Root story, too, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Excellent, excellent. So, not one of the WAFB, some other state stories?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm I think that should be, in fact, I'm gonna I'm gonna call upon my good friend Dixie McMaken, next legislative session, to propose a bill that says any Facebook post by the news has to have the city in the uh what is it called? The uh description, the post description that they try to click on. Absolutely. That is synopsis, whatever they call it.
SPEAKER_00It's got to have the city where it occurred before they must include the byline. Yeah, yeah. I I I love that. That feels like dis Dixon McMacon legislation, and that's gonna be hugely significant. I'm gonna write it and give it to them to take the credit for it. I need you to dial it back from the city park business. This is not important, yeah, and uh focus on restricting our local news from trying to get clickbait with national stories.
SPEAKER_01We'll call it the clickbait law.
SPEAKER_00We'll call it the McMain clickbait law. Stop McMaking me click on these things. Oh, no McMain. That's even better. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You see, Dixon, we're helping you out on that. I'm telling you what, if I wrote a fake story about that taking place, it would probably go global because you know it happens everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Uh let's find out. Let's see what happens. Dixon McMain proposes the no McMain bill. He'll do it too, dammit. He will do it. It won't even be a joke. Art imitates life. Life imitates art. That's so good. Okay, so that concludes our news. If you want to text the show and get your comments or your queries in, how do you do such a thing?
SPEAKER_01We can uh submit your queries to 225-255-2480. 247, Drew. You can text us 247. That implies nothing along the lines of I will reply to you at 2 o'clock in the morning, but you can damn sure text us at 2 o'clock.
SPEAKER_00May not reply at 2 in the afternoon. Drunk texts are the best type to send to the city. Oh, yeah, yeah. That way we can read it while we're up.
SPEAKER_01And we uh if you haven't noticed, we we uh read the text anonymously unless you ask us to. Unless you really want to. Some of you are mean. I feel like 80% of them are probably Wade Evans, which is why they don't put the name next to it. But fair. Yeah, but we do have some text, uh, we do have some text that we got the past couple of days that uh if I could like to read if you'd like to hear it. I would love to hear this. Yeah, the first one says y'all need to have food for guests, and y'all need me as a guest, anonymous.
SPEAKER_00Could have been anybody. Yes, that's such a narrow category. So Dave and I recently went on somebody else's podcast for fun. Not just somebody else, it was Mark Belgar, the Ascension mean guy. He's nationally famous. He's Ascension Parish's person of the year four years running. Maybe five. Yeah, maybe five. And so unbeknownst to us, we showed up to food being provided, uh, which is something we do not do here at the Savaged Podcast for our guest. We suck, apparently. Uh, and not only did he have food, it was delicious. It was tasty barbecue, and I believe it was a jambalaya tacos.
SPEAKER_01It was a it was a jambalaya or dirty rice uh with um cheese, some kind of cheese, and a soft like taco shell was delicious. Unbelievable.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely delicious barbecued ribs. It was the first moment we f we found out uh that we may be falling short as a a podcast host that has guests on the show. Probably walked away going, what the hell kind of podcast was that? Look, uh to be fair, to be fair, the savagate gives them an awesome Savagate Tumblr. Yeah. Which is most of the reason why they showed up to do the show in the first place.
SPEAKER_01I believe you and I are definitely five percent of the reason they show up. 100%. Like, without a doubt. Yeah, yeah. So or or or as you look across the table and see that savagate tumbler sitting there that says Mason Bats on it. Lonely, lonely tumbler over there. If you don't show up, lonely. I wonder if his mom said, You're not going to do that show, boy. Too young to leave the house this early. That's right. Son, it's past your curfew. I can't drive you there, so how are you gonna get there? He will be back on the show. He wants to come back. Allegedly. I'm making him sweat it out, though. Yeah. I'll make him sweat it out. Yeah. When he says, when we do the show, I just leave him on red.
SPEAKER_00That's right. We should we should have uh we should just have a series of people who don't like Mason on the show first.
SPEAKER_01But to answer your question, good texture, assuming you're listening, we not only are gonna have food on the show, we will have a surprise food sponsor that we are working with right now. The absolute best food in Baton Rouge, and we will have their food here every show to share with our guests. Or just for me and Drew to show you how delicious this food looks. So your wish is our command. And if you want to text me back and tell me who you are, maybe we'll invite you to have some of that delicious food.
SPEAKER_00Maybe not, depends. Trying to call us out on our own show. Maybe not. Okay. So what else we get text-wise? Zachary Council Woman was a good episode.
SPEAKER_01I'd vote for her.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well played. Well, that was the whole point of coming on the show, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Amber was a great guest. We we learned a lot about uh Zachary, a little bit about Baker.
SPEAKER_00A little bit about Baker. In fact, learned some go-kart stuff. Uh we wanted Zachary to annex Baker, and that was clearly made that that probably is not gonna happen. No, but I feel like they could probably buy Baker for a good price. That's got a zoo, though. It's expensive zoo. $120 million zoo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it makes money.
SPEAKER_00They got a beautiful park in Baker right by that zoo, too. That that park is awesome. Yep. Well played.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, so so yeah, thanks again to uh my friend Amber from coming on the show. We we definitely enjoyed having you. Looking forward to having you on after you win your uh re-election.
SPEAKER_00We'll talk about that. And to promote your Hallmark movie coming out this Christmas. From New York to Zachary. Yeah, from New York. The story of a councilwoman. Yeah, the Amber DeVergilio story, which I meant to work on saying. I got a speech impediment for saying De Virgilio. There's probably six ways to pronounce it, and she probably isn't positive which one's the right one. I'm sure she just kind of nods and goes, okay, let's move on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. You're not Italian, you just pronounce Italian names like however you see fit, and you stick to it, and that's it. You'll never change. That's how you pronounce it. I get Rapallo, Rappello, I get the craziest things.
SPEAKER_00I feel like she's got like a mother-in-law or a grandmother-in-law that like always tries to feed her food. Oh, she got to. Like, yeah, I gotta fatten you up a little bit. Come over here. Eat some more pasta. Yeah, that was a fun show. Thanks for the uh and that's episode 40. So if you're keeping score at home, you can go back and check it out. Yeah, it's online now. Yeah, check it out. All right, what else we got?
SPEAKER_01If y'all planned on having Jaden Daniels on the show, you might want to delete episode five first.
SPEAKER_00Now we kind of got to that already. That from now on, we are gonna skip the number five altogether. So episode five, whatever is on it, yeah, probably getting deleted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh, I'm gonna I'm gonna download it and save it. It'll be the lost episode. Maybe in 50 years, someone will go, I found the lost episode to the Savagate podcast.
SPEAKER_00It's gonna be like Disney as a kid when they say you had to buy Cinderella now before it goes back into the vault forever.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_00So, yeah, no more fives. Uh, in fact, uh, I'm dedicating myself to not saying five periods. Well, I'm setting it up that I'm not gonna say it. Say what? High four.
SPEAKER_01We should all avoid the number five at any cost because Jaden Daniels' mom is on the war path.
SPEAKER_00Did you know there you can copyright a phrase? I don't know. I mean, you can copyright a number. I actually copyrighted a number for a client once. What was that number? Can you say it since you copyrighted? No, I don't want to say it. I want to bring it up. Was it two? No, it was like it was 17. Really? Yeah. It's copyrighted? Yes. In a couple of different ways. So could you get in trouble for saying it just now? No. Oh, maybe. You know, uh Michael Buffer. Michael Buffer's phrase is copyrighted. Let's get ready. Boxing guy? Really? Oh, to a rumble. He makes a fortune off that.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I've heard that before. We didn't just say that, by the way.
SPEAKER_01Cut that out, Drew. All right, we got one more text, and I think this one's aimed at the uh technical director of the show, whoever that may be, Drew. Um, it says, hey Dickweeds, the audio volume sucks on the pod. First of all, language terrible. Get your pie holes up on the mic, especially Drew and guests. I should not have to turn my volume up and down all pod. Proof, listen to your stuff.
SPEAKER_00Well, first, it's it's it's proof that you have to listen to the entire episodes. You have to do that. That's really good that you're paying that much attention. Uh, two. Yeah, that might be our listener. That might be our guy, our subscriber.
SPEAKER_01Hey, thank you. We appreciate that. Thank you so much. Constructive criticism, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I do appreciate it. I told you we would read any text on the air. I will work harder at my craft of editing the podcast in the future.
SPEAKER_01Did you hear Drew's list of credentials? Audio editor was not one of them. He's doing the best he can. He has no more room in his life for another cap.
SPEAKER_00Nope, nope, nope, nope. We should just be grateful he gets them uploaded. Yeah, why don't y'all talk at a better volume? Yeah. And to be fair, I mean, Dave is the writer at This Advocate, so he should be the loudest. Right. Because I write loud. What? I mean, you're the most important person on the show. I don't know about all that. Gotta make you louder.
SPEAKER_01This is your studio, your equipment.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Your SD card from 2006 or whatever. That gig is still good, baby. Still rocking. Hey, thank you for that comment. We enjoy every single comment. Constructive criticism. I guess texted us before, I can't remember what it was. He's a cool dude. We appreciate that. Hopefully, this episode is uh comfortable for you to listen to. Way more better. If not, you know whose fault it is. Absolutely my fault. If you want to come on the show and have a burger or pizza, let us know.
SPEAKER_00We'd love to have you on. Oh, when we start delivering food. I wonder if we're gonna get more popular with guests when we have food. Oh, 100%. When they find out what we're having, when they find out what we're having, they are going to be. If it's what you told me before the show, yes, that sponsor is the best at what they make in the area. Period. Period. Period. Great guy. Not even hyperbole. I literally eat there every other week. Uh instead of calling me to go eat there. Well, I mean, we're doing a show together. If I talk to you outside of this, you should be like, you know what? And I believe we're gonna be start doing a remote show from there eventually. Oh, I would love that so much. Wouldn't that be fun? Oh, you know, doing a show while having a delicious chocolate malt. That sounds pretty darn good. You just gave away the sponsor. No, I did not. A lot of malts in this city. A lot of malts in this city. Yeah. So you figure it out. Episode 41 of the Savicate, uh, soon to be brought to you by somebody. Awesome. If you want to catch the show, you can go download it anywhere you find podcasts. Anywhere. Go to iTunes, go to the Savvocate's Facebook page. Great places to find it. Uh, we just ask that you like, uh link to it, subscribe to it, leave us a nice review. Text it to your friends. Yeah, we want more people to find it. Share in the joy.
SPEAKER_01If we could break five subscribers by the end of the summer, well, which is now, I feel like that would be accomplished. We got five. If we could get six. We go so we'd celebrate. We'd go to we'd go have a nice meal somewhere.
SPEAKER_00No, that's like when a kid says, you know, what's your goal? My goal is to be the president. My goal is to land on the moon. All right, Jimmy. Let's shoot a little. Let's shoot a little shorter. How about we just go for justice of the peace? And I say, I'll do it.
SPEAKER_01Get some of that fake respect till he shows up at your house to kick your ass out. I'm a voter for you. Yeah, that's a great sign here, sir.
SPEAKER_00That's right. Pay your rent, damn it. All right, uh, go get the Savagate and get like link, like, review to us, all that good stuff. This is episode 41 of the Stavagate Podcast
